THE HISTORY OF
Furnish A Home, Inc.

FurnishAhome was founded as Wholesale Bedding by Scott Day in 1992 while selling mattresses by appointment from the basement of his Birmingham, Alabama home. Then after a partnership went awry, Scott was off to Knoxville, Tennessee in May 1994.  Initially in Knoxville Scott operated out of a mini storage complex. Due to such low overhead, Scott was able to increase his capital and, therefore, expand his product line.  This expansion soon demanded a move to a larger facility, being a 3,000 square foot warehouse showroom in an industrial/commercial park. 

After marriage and a child, a structured life spawned by opening a retail store with set hours. This first retail operation, Bed & Furniture Gallery, opened in April 1997; the second in October 1998.  The addition of employees allowed the freedom to have a winter home in Florida.  After a couple of winters of getting sand in the shoes a permanent move south was made.  WB opened a retail warehouse in Orlando January 2000, even though the Knoxville stores were not sold until February 2001. 

The first WB independent dealer opened in Ooltewah, Tennessee in 1997, and is still in operation today.  It was a while after this first affiliate commenced that Scott garnered the idea to search for others with an entrepreneur spirit who would like the freedom and flexibility offered by being a WB dealer.  As a result, friends came forth and joined the WB family, as did customers.

Early 2002 WB was searching for product expansion, as a new item was needed to offer the dealers to increase their business.  After much research it was determined that pool tables would be that item.  After the new product induction and training of such, the idea emerged to go on the road recruiting independent dealers.  After much prayer, the first temporary move was set into motion. By the fifth week of operation, WB had three interested parties in the home location alone.

Upon returning to Orlando in January 2003 WB discovered that our fiercest competition was no longer in business.  Yippee!  Immediately, six distributorships were opened throughout Florida.  Arrival of summer brought about a second temporary move for the sole purpose of recruiting. 

With fall came:  the desire to split the Orlando facility into West Volusia and Northeast Orlando locations; the name change to furnishAhome; and the first furnishAhome dealer convention, which was a huge success. 

Hot tubs/spas became the new item of 2004, while importing pool tables continued to flourish.  In order to offer dealers the best pricing furnishAhome would have to start importing by the container.  This was the first experiment of such, so it took some shopping around to find the best quality product for the money.  With these product lines in place, dealers had the option to add one or both items to increase sales.  The 2004 hurricane season twice postponed the second dealer convention, but it went off in January 2005 with a bang!

Realizing that bringing new dealers on board was very healthy for furnishAhome’s future, we sold Orlando/Longwood in 2005 and West Volusia in 2006. By surrendering retail establishments, our focus shifted to offering dealer support, recruiting, and importing.
